Nigerian Community in Peterborough

An organisation welcoming people of Nigerian heritage

About Us

Nigerian Community in Peterborough is a registered charity, it exists to support members of the public who are Nigerian by birth, ancestry and descent, marriage, naturalisation or adoption in the Peterborough area.

Background

We are an inclusive organisation welcoming people of all ages and backgrounds working together to enable members to reach their full potential as individuals contributing to health & socio-economic wellbeing in Peterborough.

The vision of the founding members was to create a space where Nigerians regardless of tribe or tongue could come together to celebrate all things Nigerian as well as resolve any issues affecting members living in Peterborough, that was 13 years ago.

Today the charity also serves as a bridge promoting communication and cohesion between its members and the local city council.  The Nigerian Community in Peterborough creates a space where members feel they belong and can live at peace alongside other communities.

We believe in giving back to our community and have been able to access funds for numerous local events raising the profile of the Nigerian Community in Peterborough. Some of the events include: Donating to local organisations including Women’s aid, a children’s respite centre, local children’s ward, missionary work in Africa and running a couple of youth workshops. We also organised a march in support of the #bringbackourgirls campaign.

These are exciting times and we continue to work together, striving to foster community cohesion for our members while making significant contributions to the city we call home.  We are driven by a desire to leave a lasting legacy not only for members but for future generations. Come join us in making a difference in Peterborough.
